Pastoral
Care and Special Workshops
Descriptions |
Workshop: Contemporary Worship Design
Worship that engages people takes thought, prayer, design
and more, and taps into creative and artistic skills, bringing a
palate of sight and sound interacting with the congregation and
drawing them into worship of God. Can this be done in a faithful
prayer book tradition? Yes! This workshop will examine the landmines
in this endeavor and chart a course to a successful and meaningful
worship experience for all ages. Topics include: music; liturgy;
media; technical design; resources; and graphics, blending ancient
and modern styles. |
Anti-Racism Training
Participants will be made aware of the anti-racism initiative
adopted by the General Convention of the Episcopal Church. Topics
will include the biblical foundations of ethnic and organizational
differences, the concepts of righteousness and leadership as
required by our church and the law, and the creation of an awareness
of,
and breaking down of, barriers to inclusiveness. |
Seeking Excellence in Christian Education
Building on a review of best practices and policies in use in our
diocese, this is a unique opportunity to review requirements for a
safe church, volunteer recruitment and curricula. Lively discussion
will provide the opportunity for discovering how to improve your
program by learning from others who are also committed to quality
Christian formation for children. |
Parish Health Ministry
Parishioners often need support with the challenges of the
healthcare system. This four-Saturday series (February 7,
March 7, April 18, and May 2, 2009) will provide the
student with the tools to develop and maintain a parish health
ministry program that encourages health and wellness while
supporting members as they navigate their way through medical issues
and related decisions. |
Evangelism: A Way of Life and Growth
This workshop will present styles of personal evangelism so that
participants can discover a way of bringing others to Christ that
will work for them and enable them to bring others into a deepening
faith in Christ. Participants will find their own faith deepened and
strengthened as they learn to share with others the hope and love
they find in Jesus Christ. |
Pastoral Care and Ministry
This
series will explore the ministry needed by parishioners and families
as they seek healing and wholeness in the midst of life’s
challenges. Lay individuals involved in pastoral care in the parish
are encouraged to attend. |
Basics of Parish Pastoral Ministry
Caring for one another is one of our most important parish
ministries. These two
workshops, in the fall and spring, will provide attendees with the
tools for creating and maintaining a strong caring ministry in their
parish; new material will be offered during each workshop. |
Lay Eucharistic Minister/Lay Eucharistic Visitor
This course prepares lay persons to be Lay Eucharistic Ministers.
Course material includes an historical overview, the Canons of the
Church, diocesan guidelines and pastoral issues. After completing
this course, students who desire to be licensed must discuss
licensure with their rector. |

Conference Center. Participants will have the opportunity to explore
all aspects of vestry service and will look at the responsibilities
and challenges of this important ministry. |
